“Journal of Interactive Online Learning”

What did I learn?

As it mentioned in the article, now in days students are involving more in online classes. Even though taking online courses is something most students like, today I learn that there are people who disagree with them. Some state that there is the “lack of face-to-face interaction among students and their instructors”. Even though the statement might sound like if it is a disadvantage, I have to give credit to online courses .As a result of them, many more students want to engage in school because while they might be at home busy or working, they could be learning something new. I also learn that before online courses there were fewer students taking classes. Now with these courses they are more confident to interact and to participate with discussions. Many would fear to do that before!

What else do I want to learn?

Even though I have visited the tapped in web page, i would like to learn and view more from it. This page could help me interact with other people around the world and maybe I could get tips and ideas for lessons or activites for my instructions.

“American School Counselor Association”

1. What did I learn?
Today, I visited the “American School Counselor Association” (http://www.schoolcounselor.org). I learned that this organization supports school counselors on helping children who can’t focus at school because of many reasons or problems they face. Under the section: “Apply for Typical or Troubled Grant”, I learned that they prepare and educate teachers about “mental disorders” that teens could have. Also, I learn within that specific area, that there could be grants to help apply that same program to schools near you. They also have a bookstore online that could help many teachers get more involved on learning and reading more about things that could be happening with our children that could affect them with their academics.
2. What else do I want to learn?
I would like to learn more about the activity we are doing in class:
“Second Life”. I am a little confused and I don’t know how to start it because they have not sent me an invitation so that I could get working on it. Now, within the organization I visited today, I would like to learn more about counseling events that could focus me more as for why children keep having problems at schools due to other situations.

*Organization*

1. What did I learn?
This week my interests focused on an online organization“The Virtual Museum of San Francisco” (http://www.sfmuseum.org ). I focused mainly on the section “THE GREAT FIRE AND EARTHQUAKE- 1906”. This tragedy was interesting to me because I, unfortunately, did not know about this disaster. Reading and observing through this organization gave me the opportunity to feed my mind about historical situations that I could take into consideration and try implying it, (at some point), during my history lesson times. I learned that I should focus about other histories around the world and not only the ones in our areas. For me it is very important to do so because I could engage my future students to focus in other parts of the world.
2. What else do I want to learn?
It stated at the home page, towards the end, that they will be debuting San Francisco’s art culture; I sure would be looking forward on taking a peek when they do so. Further, I would like to be engaging in other organizations in which I could research and learn from. For example: “American School Counselor Association”, k12connection.org, pbs.org… Without a doubt, these organization are very helpful because they focus on many academical skills teachers and future teachers could use.

*Journal*

What did I learn?
  • The online journal visited was: http://www.teacher.scholastic.com. Within the page, I visited almost all the different sections. But without a doubt my favorite was the one titled “Student Activities”. Its amazing to realize that now in days students can express freely their ideas and comments.( I say freely because when work is done through computer, you have the opportunity to express better because no one else can see you or make you faces on things you are saying). In this section, students can also publish and make research projects.

What else do I want to learn?

  • I would like to learn to use more technology sources that could help me achieve as a future teacher. Within the site I visited, I would like to learn more about the section “Teaching Strategies” because I believe this would help me on focusing more on my class way of conducting and instructing. I would also like to investigate other journals as well as organizations and resources mentioned on our assignment because this sources, I believe, will contain very good and helpful information.
